The center for Biotechnology at Fort Valley State University invites undergraduates to participate in its summer research experience for undergraduates program in biotechnology from May 24 to July 23, 2010.

PURPOSE

 

To provide insight of biotechnology research through hands on experience for enhanced interest in research.

 

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

  • Meet and interact with research scientists
  • Conduct a nine-week independent laboratory research project
  • Live with fellow program participants on campus
  • Tour major research institiutions
  • Deliver a scientific presentation at an end-of-program symposium

 

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

  • A $4,140 stipend
  • Paid room, boarding and limited travel (upto $500 for outof town participants only)
  • Research applications and supplies.
  • Access to campus facilities such as laboratories, library and computer lab.
  • Program certification of achievement.

PARTICIPANTS MUST

 

An applicant must be:

  • Enrolled in an accredited college/university , majoring in the biological science.
  • Be college sophomores or juniors with a minimum 2.8 GPA
  • A student with a strong interest in a career in agricultural/biotechnology research are encouraged to apply.

 

HOW TO APPLY

  • Submit a completed application.
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty members.
  • An unmounted head-and-shoulders photograph (color or black-and-white, passport size, no photocopies)
  • A statement of interest, and a transcript by MAY 7, 2010.
